Anyone had this recently? Whenever I try to log on to my NTL homepage, I am now automatically redirected to some Cypriot based outfit that tries to sell me anti spyware software. Obviously I have inadvertently allowed something in, despite zonealarm, and various anti-spyware programs, but try as I might, I can't seem to get rid of it. Whenever I type the homepage url in any form, bingo, it redirects to this blasted thing. There must be a way, but I've tried everything I can think of. I wonder if this is the latest offering from some sick mind, or just a pathetic attempt to get people to part with their money. It's a very official looking site, but not quite convincing, especially when you realise that the only way forward is going to cost you money!
I'm stumped, and could really use some help, and also, consider this as a warning. I think it may have originally popped up in zone alarm as some sort of essential win NT update, and I absentmindedly allowed it, not thinking till afterwards that winNT shouldn't have anything to do with me. Dork!!

Hi
Get Hijack This, an excellent program for removing unwanted nasties. It scans your machine, and then gives you a list, just be careful what you remove.

Many thanks, both officially and on here. It just goes to show what a moments inattention can do. Anyone else reading this, please note, be on your guard all the time, even if you think your hidden behind firewalls, anti-spyware etc., they all have their limitations, one of the biggest of which is the prat clicking the mouse! Well, I was distracted, and it looked more or less official.....Instructions slightly daunting for an aging fossil, but I think I can manage, and it will be a pleasure beating these bludgers. I'll let you know, as if I can do it, anyone else can, and any of us can come up against this anytime. Incidentally, it looks like the "Smitfraud" version, but my goodness, aren@t there a lot of them!0

Seems to have disappeared after running a full scan with Ewido, which I noticed being recommended on another thread. I was floundering a bit on the other advice, although it was in fact working well. Did the system scan in safe mode, and it showed up something similar to, but not exactly the same as, the examples given. I didn't want to take a chance on deleting it, I'm not computer literate enough to know what it was, but anyway, in the course of the ewido scan, up it popped, as a major threat, and I was able to delete it safely.
If all this helps anyone else, great, I'm just thankful for the amount of free advice on this website, on all sorts of topics.0 -

I have read your posts carefully & you don't mention that you are using any anti-virus software?
Anyway if you aren't you could try the AVG Free version.

I do actually have McAfee anti virus running, and zone alarm. Zone Alarm did I think stop the problem, or at least asked for permission, the window which popped up mentioned Win NT log-on something. As I say, I was distracted momentarily, and it seemed innocuous enough, so I clicked on "allow." I'm not sure if it was that, but immediately afterwards the problems began. As soon as I had done it, I had misgivings, wondered what Win NT had to do with me, as I'm running Win XP Pro, but, too late!
Although Ewido has corrected the problem, there is still something lurking in the pc, it's not a 100% cure, so I think I'll go back and try it the hard way again.
Many thanks again, for all the usefull advice.0
