Just seen the Venturer 40GB HDD MP3 Player for £89.99 at Argos.
I am looking for something that allows a large storage for music and at the price it seems ideal.
I know it's probably a clearance model, but at the price feel it's worth looking at.
Has anybody got one and could they tell me what they think.
I have been unable to find any decent reviews so any help given would help me to decide to buy it or not.
Thanks
Martin

Hi
I think usually you get what you pay for, its very cheap for a 40gb hd, most 40gbs at at least £100 dearer, so what sort of quality is it? No reviews out there that I can see, so if you decide to buy it, your taking a chance on wether its any good or not. And I also see that Argos are excluding it from their 16 day money back guarantee.
But even if it isn't any good, I suppose you could use it as a back up drive.
Have you seen this one from microdirect http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=8278, not as big only 20gb
Hope this helps

Argos have it brand new for only a tenner more! (Ie. No Ex Display or what ever!)0

Not sure what you mean by "quality", wonderfullife. If you mean audio quality then I've yet to be convinced that there's any significant difference between any of these. If you mean build quality then you still have your statutory rights and the guarantee. It is excluded from the 16-day thing because it has headphones so there is a hygiene issue.
How do you set up playlists with these things? I know that with the little USB pen-style players they simply play tracks/folders in the order you put them on.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
A few comments (not really a review) here http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.2507 - looks like a big 'un (approx 5" x 3.5" x 1" and a bit..) - at least you won't lose it down the back of the sofa. I've seen the Venturer brand in Comet and Asda as well as Argos - normally on 'boom boxes' and portable DVD players. Would guess that they're not at the cutting edge, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in the world of gadgets.0

There is another thread floating about the forums about this as I looked the other day at on the argos website. A couple of people who had bought it said it was very poor build quality and took it back to the shop.
That was enough to put me off.

Not really, because I use Linux (and Grip), but you weren't to know! Thanks anyway. I was actually wondering how the players know what order to play the tracks in - do they recognise m3u files?Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Hi
Yes, mine recognises m3u files, its a IRiver H140. Don't know about other players, but I would think they do.0 -
If you are a linux buff, irivers are excellent! I have a h320, copy your mp3 files and playlists on to the drive, job done, no crazy software needed!

Wandering off topic, sorry, but I resorted to writing a Perl script to read m3u files and copy the tracks onto the MP3 player in the right order, because the little pen one plays them in the order they're put on the device.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
