Cant ubderstand it.
piccys I took with camera are listed as PI3 instead of the usual JPG.
New camera is a Panasonic so that bit makes sense but every prog sees the files as a JPG.
prob is that when I go to copy to CD disk it puts PI3 suffix on file and DVD player cant read it.
How do I get windows to see these files as jpegs?

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Not common format.
Are you sure that the camera doesn't have a file type option?Happy chappy0 -
hi,
I just don't get this at all.
The files are shown as PI3 when you look at the properties but all programs load them in as JPGs. I have a batch renamer that I was going to use but it already reads them as JPGs so won't change them.
It's as though XP (Recently Installed) doesn't see them as JPGs but I have earlier photos and they list as JPGs O.K.
I have just inserted memory card from camera and every photo is showing PI3 ending and other than one by one loading them into a photo manager of some kind and individually saving the file specifying JPG as the suffix it appears that there is nothing I can do.
That process would take weeks, as you can imagine."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
To convert your files, download Irfanview which is a very useful and free program. You can then use the Batch Conversion/Rename function to easily rename your files.
You haven't mentioned the model of the camera, are you sure that you can't change the file type in a menu setting somewhere?

@espresso
I wonder if the P is for Panasonic.... Maybe the extensions are hidden.0 -
Just an idea are you using ulead photo impact? If so perhaps this is set up as your default jpeg reading program. If you are it is easy to change to another jpeg default program instead.0

Hmmm. Thanks everyone. Now cured it.
somehow JPG was knocked out of the 'File Types' association folder.
i Just added a new suffix (JPG) and its all done.
Can't think how that could've happened."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0
