Large capacity 2.5 inch ATA/IDE disks

My 4 year old Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop has an 80gb 2.5 inch ATA/IDE 5400rpm disk and I would like one of larger capacity.

I do use external USB connected 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch disks but I really would prefer to have a larger internal disk. 250gb or more would be ideal.

Most of the bigger capacity disks appear to be SATA which is no good.

What are my options and where are the best sources?

Is the 5400rpm important or could I use any speed disk? Would a 7200 rpm overheat? Cooling is not a problem in the disk area which barely gets warm even after extended use.

I do realise that I need to confirm that the disk will physically fit into the disk caddy and recess in the laptop.

Is there anything else that I need to consider?

Thanks
