If You Were In Charge Of Ofgem What would You Do

Many posters have come up with good suggestions as to how the energy companies should be regulated and the consumers interests protected.

If I were Mr Ofgem for a day I would

1. Ensure all meters were read at least twice a year

2. All price alterations were announced no later than 7 days before they were due to come into effect.

3. Proper social tariffs were introduced to protect the vulnerable

4. Bills and charging methods are simplified

5. Consider disbanding Ofgem and starting again with with proper Regulations and meaningful sanctions if they are broken, backed up by a truly independant Regulatory Authority with strong consumer representation built in.

Just to start off. All other (sensible) suggestions welcome. There must be loads of ideas out there.
