Little Jo that is probably a fair idea. I have an indoor aeriel and one of those plug in booster things. I might just try that and see if it works in the bedrooms. If not, then I can go with the aeriel installation. Aren't you clever - aren't I dim? :snow_laug

  • I run my own business installing Aerials and sky.

I cannot stress how important it is to get someone good/reliable to do the job for you.A pro will have good local knowledge, should also have digital signal strength meter and be using good quality aerials and cable. It is SO important to have high qual;ity coax cable as the stuff used years ago is not up to it.

It may be that the coax you have is ok at the moment but things like cars and microwaves will effect the digital picture if poor cable is used.

I would suggest yopu atart here https://www.cai.org.uk

This is the leading body that works with the government and consumers to get the digital t.v. out there.I am a member and the stringent checks etc ensure a good job at a fair price.

    Hope this helps.

  • Agree with above. If you cancel sky youn will still get the freeview chans except e4 , the History chan and a few others.

If you have had sky a while threaten to cancel and you may get a deal.Btw use the freephone number which is about here at the mo.

  • We had to have a new aerial on the roof to get Freeview in our area (Gloucestershire) boosters etc. were no good. It cost £75 for the new aerial and fitting, and the chap also tested it all with meters for me.

I have just wired up Freeview in my neice' room, used an indoor ariel similar to this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5342000/Trail/C%24cip%3D28956.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D28957.Accessories%2Band%2Bbatteries%3EC%24cip%3D28963.Television%2Baerials%2Band%2Bboosters.htm It was a lot older than that one but it is the closest I could find.

It has worked perfect. Just move it about a bit until all stations are looking good.

I was thinking about buying my nan a freeview box for her birthday. She has an ordinary rooftop aerial and I've just put the postcode in the freeview site and it mentions something about needing a new outdoor aerial. Does anyone know if this is really necessary as I don't think I will be able to afford it. Thanks

Yes, if it says she needs a new aerial, and her current one has not been purchased recently then she will need what's known as a "wideband" aerial.
