Free web hosting vs paying for site

Ive made my own site on a free web hosting thingy and would really appreciate some feedback and make sure everyone can view it okay.

You'll probably end up breaching the T+Cs of MSE by posting your link, but...

Whilst trying to use the site I get this error:

This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.
The Microsoft Office Live Small Business Web service has encountered an unexpected problem in processing your request. Please check the Address box to make sure you have entered the correct Web address.
Use your browser's Back button to take you back to the previous page.
If you continue to encounter this problem or your attempts continue to fail, please contact Customer Support.

Also the domain looks unprofessional, and everyone can see it's on free space. http://lakesworkwear.web.officelive.com/default.aspx rather than your domain.
  • Have to agree, most web hosts do a hosting package for a few £ per month. It looks far more professional. Personally I never take sites seriously and would never consider buying from someone online who only used a free service.
  • the site doesn't load everytime but your design and layout are good.
your domain came free with the hosting i guess, so you are unable to host it elsewhere.
if you can change hosts there are better developers that you can use
  • thanks for feedback - not sure why sometimes it does not load.

Which developers would be better to use.

    i get a wonderful error....

To use Microsoft Office Live, your computer must meet one of the following requirements:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7, running on Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista. You can download Internet Explorer from the Windows Internet Explorer page.

Mozilla Firefox running on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or Mac OS X 10.2.x and later. You can download Firefox from the Firefox download page.

I use safari on a mac... i'd personally not bother loading up Firefox just to view a website, and keep on googling to find someone with a compatible website to my standard web browser..

Because it's free. You get what you pay for.

    Hi

Can you change a setting so that your address always shows the .co.uk address rather than the host address.
With mine it's just a tick in a box 'masked forwarding (framed)'

Then it's not so obvious who is hosting your site
  • Which developers would be better to use

i've just pm'ed you a hosting package with sitebuiler software. let me know if it suits your needs

Free hosting is absolutely fine, ignore those who say it's less reliable. It's fine.

Where you've registered your domain, point your nameservers to the free hosting.

All my network's on free hosting, and it's brilliant.
