Pleased with First Capital Connect website.
If you're looking to buy some train tickets in advance I would highly recommend the First Capital Connect website for both the prices offered and speed of service.
My itinerary is to travel from Brighton to meet a friend up in London for a day out in the city on the 21st November, and then travel back with her to Nottingham where she lives that evening for the weekend, returning alone on the Monday. My total spend for an assortment of single tickets and a zone 1 & 2 travelcard is £38.35 (using 16-25 railcard) which I think is very reasonable indeed.
Brighton - London Victoria was £3 travelling around midday.
Day Travelcard Zones 1 & 2 was £5.30
London St Pancras - Nottingham was £15.20 travelling around 9pm.
Nottingham - Brighton via St Pancras was £14.85 travelling early afternoon.
I ordered these tickets on Tuesday evening 11:30pm and they were delivered to my door this morning (no extra cost for first class delivery).
I had investigated Megatrain which is usually very cheap but the only available train going from London to Nottingham after our day out was at 10pm arriving at nearly 1am which wasn't useful to us and cost about £11 anyway. I'm sure the First Capital Connect tickets would have been cheaper had I known sooner that I was going to be going, but for about a week and a half in advance I think I got a good price.

Nice one, It always cheaper to buy your tickets from the train company, any one of the train companies will do, the only time I would say use thetrainline.com was if your into doing the quidco thing as they give 2% back for every £25 spentWhoa! You dont by any chance work for FCC do you!?
I can believe it, FCC has got to be the biggest rip off, all that for £38 yet for a return to london on a young person railcard from just outside including tube is about £17!
At least none of your trains are operated by them...!0 -

Question doesn't FCC's website use the same web engine as thetrainline.com, Arriva trains Wales, Transpennie Express and Chiltern trains. So are these websites rip offs aswell or was it the breaks in her journey that the customer inputted, that made the price go up.Whoa!
