Try emusic.com to begin with, you get 50 free mp3 downloads as a new user and its good and legal, but make sure you cancel before the date your card will be charged.
You could try the napster to go service, where you pay a monthly subscripton to download as much as you want from napster but i think if you stop paying then you can't keep your downloads.0 -

This is illegal.
From the rules...............

What you suggested is illegal. The rules request very clearly that we don't discuss illegal topics on the boards. So yes, your post is against the rules of the site.
It's not possible to list every single illegal activity in the rules (there are just too many to list individually), but they clearly state that these subjects are not allowed on the boards. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

It's perfectly ok to own a cd/dvd copier and talk about it. I use mine for backing up work etc... Nowt wrong with that.
Converting cd music to mp3 is legal too, as long as you own the original and aren't breaking any copy protection in the process.
What you suggested is effectively theft as you're copying something you don't own, hence Rex's comments."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

if you want to look at it like that, you ARE committing an offence by changing the format of the cd into mp3, you are altering the media, you are also duplicating the music, again breaking the law. you may own a cd but you do not own the artistic material on it.
so we better stop talking about mp3 unless the production company have already converted it to mp3 or a company had paid a licence to convert the song into mp3.
i stick with my original advice.what is the plural of moose?

Just for the record...............
I'm not against anyone downloading/copying music from wherever they like. I've got a MASSIVE music collection myself (I love my music). I use a variety of sources, all of them which I can't (and don't) discuss on these boards (I would be breaking the rules). There are many many sites on the net that you can go to and discuss these methods. This site is not one of them.
The reason I pointed out the rules is not because I disagree with the advice, it's because I like this site as it is. I respect the rules that are in place. This is a private site owned by Martin. He lets us use the site for free. The least we could do while we use the site is to respect the rules that he has put in place. I don't find that hard to do. It's a shame that some people find this difficult. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hi
We've had this debate forever, some people will never download anything illegal and some people like me download it all the time. No matter what anyone says, I would not stop downloading and some people will never start. But I agree that this site is not the place to discuss it, so henceforth you will hear no more from me about downloading, (except legal sites only) I promise.
Each to their own,
Merry Christmas0
