Overcharge by hotel - can I get in back?

in Credit cards
Hi,
Basically,as the title says, I received a credit card bill today to find that a hotel I and my family stayed in in America, charged me an extra $150 two days after we left. I emailed to ask why and was told that it was a clean up fee due to the "undisclosed pet" that we had in our room. I rang the hotel for an explanation and a very angry man, explained that the house keepers had found a large quantity of pet hair and excrement on the floors of BOTH rooms and thus they had to be deodorized and cleaned etc.
It occurred to me that I had trimmed my hair, whilst in the room and had probably not done the best job in cleaning it all up. I explained this and the man claimed he knew the difference between human and pet hair - though apparently not as I have very recognizably human bleached blonde hair. This hair would have been on the floor of one of the rooms, certainly not the second. I can only imagine the excrement mentioned was a fabrication either on behalf of the cleaning staff or made up on the spot by the man on the phone.
I called the credit card company, who said that the payment obviously went through to the hotel already but that if I send copies of the emails along with the statement they will look into it.
Just wondering what the chances of them actually getting the money back are? I can't imagine how I would go about disproving the hotels fanciful claims. I'm so angry and loathed to let them get away with it.
help!
