Sorry for not posting on Monday as promised. My computer went kaputt on Saturday night. I spent half of yesterday working out what the problem was and the second half looking for a new computer, having deduced it wasn't worth trying to fix! So I'm rather behind and don't have time to comment on things in detail- I think I might be needing my CMF bonus now! ;-)
A quick history lesson on the CMF Bonus as far as I can make out- others can give more accurate details.
Many years ago the state paid an annual 'Regium Donum' payment to ministers (i.e. the state paid quite a large part of minister's salaries). When they stopped this practice, they gave a lump sum to the church which the church had to invest and use to make a payment to ministers each year. It is known as the CMF Bonus- maybe not the most helpful term in today's world!
If any other minister knows more of the technicalities of it, feel free to post. If you want more info. and background go to this year's report of the Board of Finance and Personnel and look up the Tyrone Memorial Review Panel report in Appendix 1. You will note there that the whole structure of ministers' pay including the CMF Bonus is being revised.
I'll try to comment on other issues raised in the next few days when I get cleared up a little more.0 -

Does anyone else see the irony in this?
The Moderator with modest savings in the PMS, so who has received all correspondence pertaining to the administration, yet who has claimed in the past to know little about the situation. Now has the effrontery to pontificate on banking/financial matters.
Maybe he should consider walking the walk instead of talking the talk?Church sources claim there is a general investment fund worth £43m and an estimated £20m in other reserves. The church has other assets — a site in Lucan, near Dublin, is valued at between £4m and £6m." The Sunday TimesDecember 28, 2008 Liam Clarke0 -
Quote from Moderator attacking banks - , the banks, like every other sector, must seek the welfare of the whole community and must see themselves as the stewards of the savings and investments of ordinary people
I dont think the church was a good steward of PMS savings.

When you have time to come back, please can you advise;-
Is it correct that Presbyterian ministers do not pay;-
1) Rent?
2) Income tax?
3) National insurance stamps?
Also, is it correct that they are entitled to a special grant from the church to help them raise their family, a family grant?
Thanks

Also curious Ink...
As presbyterian minister did you at any time endorse any of the General Assembly resolutions which called on congregations to save their money in the PMS?
Do you think it was appropriate for the GA to do this?
I reconognise hindsight is a wonderful thing for any of us, but having said that, do you think it fair on these same congregations that the church has been very careful not to admit ANY responsibility whatsoever for the PMS crisis to these same congregations?

Please could you clarify if there was a general pulpit call for members of congregations to put their savings into the PMS in the summer of 2008 a few months before the PMS went into administration?

I would just like to point out that right now it looks to me like INK is fast becoming yet another 'target' for a lot of anger/frustration - despite having clearly spelt out in his first post on this forum, how badly he feels the PCI handled the PMS situation.
I think we have enough problems as it is getting people to understand our position and to help us, without 'harrassing' someone who has already stated that he thinks the church could have done more in the begining.
I would like to thank INK for his comments todate, and hope that he continues to contribute to the forum.0 -

Err, I think you'll find you're referring to a different Moderator. You do realise they changed last week?0
