There's lies and then there's mistakes!, I inititially thought some months ago that 'property investment' related to what the society had purchased i.e the commercial property, because I believe that this was purchased for the benefit of rental income not the propery value itself. That would have been fine if it had not been 'marked up' to current value in the books - So if they had kept the original purchase book value I believe it would today still be worth more than they were orginally bough for. By marking it up (probably fine in book keeping principles), we see a loss in capital. I would have erred on the side of caution. But then the Dividends folk received would not have been so great.
The general office staff I'm sure were speaking from the Secretary's script so they themselves were most likely innocent in passing on the info, most employees under these circumstances are referred to as mushrooms (kept in the dark!) same principle applies to computers - they don't make mistakes - rubbish in - rubbish out. So who wrote the script? I've seen some replies where senior individuals were asked specfic questions - were they misunderstood or were they misleading, only they can answer that. In the general business world, truth and ethics are scarce - one would hope they are alive and well in the Church and the PMS.0 -
If the Government steps in??
Is Mr Arthur Boyd, PMS Administrator out of a job
If so it would be in his own personal interest to string this matter out!0 -
I've been in contact with church house today and a letter from the moderator is being sent to all congregations. I was specifically asking if the Downing Street petition was being included in the letter. I was told that
1) the letter contains a request for the on-line petition to be included on Sunday announcements (I assume this would be included on the written announcements)
2) a template for a paper petition is being sent to all congregations - this is good news as it means anyone without an email address can sign.
You should see this in church THIS Sunday (25th) - if you don't the press officer at church house advised to ask your minister.
So please make sure you sign the petition on Sunday or if you do have an email address - please sign here:http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Save-the-Mutuals/
As joylikestoshop has pointed out - ANYONE CAN SIGN THIS PETITION!!!!0 -

The Court may well have restricted the Administrator but why have none of the Directors spoken out? I see that a meeting of the General Board is to be convened on 6 Feb 09. Does anyone know what is the remit of the General Board?0

Try right clicking on "click here" and choose "save target as"- then save the file in a convenient location. When the file has saved, you can open the file so long as you have Adobe reader installed on your computer0 -
This may save others looking up the info themselves!
The General Board
Convener: Dr Donald Watts
The General Board is the most widely representative body under the Assembly, with over 160 members. This includes Assembly Conveners and Presbytery Clerks. This Board deals with both routine and exceptional matters that fall between meetings of the General Assembly; and may issue public statements on behalf of the Church. It may also deal with matters that concern two or more Boards, or matters that do not fall within the boundaries of a particular Board's work. It can call ministers to work as chaplains in hospitals, prisons and the Armed Forces and assesses the suitability of all appointments outside the Church's jurisdiction to which a minister may be called by some other Board.
The work of the General Board is shared by seven committees:
Church and Society Committee Conveners: Very Rev. Dr. Alastair Dunlop and Rev. David Moore
Church Relations Committee Convener: Rev. Tony Davidson
Doctrine Committee Convener: Prof. Patton Taylor, Principal of Union College
Priorities Committee Convener: Dr. Donald Watts
Moderator's Advisory Committee Convener: Dr. Donald Watts
Recognised Ministries Committee Convener: Dr. Donald Watts
Global Concerns Committee Convener: Rev. Lesley Carroll
This committee overseas the work of three panels: Peace and Peacemaking, Environment and Race Relations.
I took this from the PCI site.

When looking up the information on the composition of the other Boards within the PCI, there appears to be nothing on the Board of Communication's page. Why should that not surprise me?:rolleyes:0
