Hi all,
Well im with Halifax using an EasyCash Account and studying at University, I am 19 years of age and earn around £500 a month, as well have my student loans every few.
The problem is I would like a student account with an overdraft but I can becuase I have bad credit, due to me being stupid as soon as I turned 18 and also Lloyds charging me stupid amounts of money when I went into an unplanned overdraft by accident when I had no job whilst at college so I couldnt pay it off easily!
Anyway I applied for a Student Account with Halifax becuase even the smallest overdraft would come in great towards the end of each month! I have applied to upgrade my EasyCash Account with Halifax but got declined
But this was a month or so ago. If I rung them up and explained my circumstances and give reason why my credit is bad, which I am working to sort out! Do you think that they could come to some arrangement with me to open some sort of small overdraft to see how I handle it, also helping rebuild my credit!
My finances are quite good at the moment as I have a regular wage coming in each month, as well as my student loan every couple, which also goes into this account, so if they take this into account do you think they would be able to come to some sort of arrangement with me? I could ring or go in branch for a meeting?
Thank you

No.
1) You could by lying for all they know. Hence why they use a neutral source.
2) Halifax are hard enough to get a student account + OD with as it is so even if you did it would be £500 max.
3) HSBC and Lloyds are just as good. Go for them.
4) Try to build up credit rating, pay a bill or something to get the ball rolling.0 -
Any more help?

I currently have a Halifax student current account, had no problem whatsoever in opening one. I got a 500 over draft on it, never gone into it once, never been close to it either. But that is what they gave me and I don't have a bad credit rating at all. Never been in debt, never been in the red etc.
But if they are not giving you an account, then maybe your best bet is to go into the branches in your local town/city. Book an appointment with their advisor and see what they can do. As I'm sure if you take proof of student status, proof of your money coming in, you shouldn't have a problem in getting a student account. But I have heard Halifax are one of the hardest to get a student account with, I'm currently in the process of picking another bank to switch to. I'm thinking about HSBC, Barclays or Abbey. Not decided yet, but best bet is to go into the branches and get advice and see what talking to an advisor in person gets you.0
