Restaurant Vouchers

Options
I have tesco clubcard vouchers for various restaurants and I can only exchange them for food not drink. Why is this and can it be challenged?

It's a common restriction I'm afraid, and (probably) in place as the profit margins on drinks are far higher than those on food. Unfortunately, if that's the restriction on the voucher they're unlikely to budge, but there's no harm in asking. My local Yates's used to insist you could only use them to buy drinks if you were buying food as well, which was fine by me - of course I just got six pints in with my food order :D

    This is the secret message.

I have used vouchers - though not Tesco ones - at restaurants that give a discount off food only. But sometimes they will give discount off the whole bill specially if you have been nice to the waiter/waitress and it looks like you will leave a good tip. But other times at the same restaurant chain they have been strict and given the discount off the food only. So you might get lucky.
  • Its because the restaurant needs to make a profit to survive. The voucher will clearly state food only is covered.

The marketing idea is really simple, give people cheap dinner, they buy drinks and fill up seats :)

I wondered the same as I have just ordered a load of vouchers from tescos for pizza express, latoscana and planet hollywood

I thought it may be something about alcohol and licenesing laws also? but then kids drinks should be allowed..
however it is a good deal and we do like to eat out so it is very worthwhile. A lot of the othe tesco deals look good but are sadly disapointing -eg euro tunnel !
