Unwanted christmas prezzies - what to do??

Hi All!
I hope everyone has enjoyed Christmas, what ever you may have done.
Just wanted some info (as I am sure many people will)
I have been given some clothes that really do not suit me and I was wondering what to do for the best, as everywhere is going into full sale mode.
Do I
a) take them back to the shop (ASDA + Argos) and ask for and exchange / refund, without offending the sender by asking for the reciept, and get what I am giving in terms of reduced, sale time refund.
b) risk offending the sender (bf of 4yrs's mum) and ask for the reciept and hope the shop will honor the original price paid.
c)risk selling on e-bay, and take a chance.
As I said, I am sure many people will be in that same position, so I ask that you post the relevant info for shops you know about not just for the shops that I have asked for, although that would really help me.
Thanks in advance
Louise
P.S. Have a great new year :santa2:

Hi, Merry Christmas! There's no real correct answer here, it's up to you. But personally I'd go for a) and go back to the shop asap and find out how much they are offering for refund or exchange value, if it's too low then I'd wait for a cheap listing day on ebay0

I was wondering about this question. I have 2 presents (bought for others), from Boots.com.
I do have the reciepts, but bought them on the 3 for 2 offer. The same gifts were bought for the 2 people by someone else, but only I kept the reciept for the one's I got.
Can I get my money back, do you think? Or will they just give me points back on my card?
As I've never done a return on Boots.com. I'm hoping I can take them back to a store and sort it out.
Has anyone ever had this happen to them?
Thanks

True .. so it would be best to say you have not got the receipt and take the vouchers. You are bound to get more (even at sale prices) that you will on Ebay as Ebay will be heaving after Christmas.I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0 -

For future reference, Asda and some other shops give a special gift receipt with larger purchases, for the giver to include with the present. That way you can return something, or follow up on the warranty if necessary. In this case I would probably try Asda for a refund (which would probably have to be vouchers), as they like to present themselves as customer friendly.0

ginger_nuts wrote:Yea take Vouchers IF they will give them to you . But they dont have to give you anything without a receipt .There contract is /was with the buyer not the person receiving the gifts . You can ask and see what they offer .
You dont think I would tell them that I had not bought the item do you! I would take the item back and say that I had bought it but received the same item as a gift. "sorry I have lost the receipt but I am happy to have vouchers!" Easy peasy.I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0 -
Not really. Personal experience is that retailers are really cracking down on returns. In Argos today the woman in front of me in the queue without a receipt was refused an exchange. She was told she would have to provide proof that the item was prchased there ie. a credit card statement, bank statement or even the date the item was purchased so that they could track it back on their system. She was too accepting and just walked off saying she had paid cash.
In Toysrus I really had to fight my ground for an exchange. I knew the item had been purchased there by my sister and roughly when but I did not want to offend her by asking if she had held onto the receipt. The assistant flat out refused an exchange. I asked for a manager who was extremely abrupt to the point of rudeness and I just had to argue my case. I knew I had won when the assistant let slip that they had had an amnesty on exchanges on Boxing day - where is the logic allowing it for one day? Think that next year I will have to say to please include a receipt for the kids gifts - not very nice but it saves a lot of hassle if pressies are duplicates or very similar to things already owned.0
