Compensation from Ikea for failed delivery ?

simple question, ordered a sofa from Ikea online, paid with a VISA credit card including the £35 delivery fee, delivery was set for friday of last week, 2 days before delivery Ikea delivery service (DHL) called to say they could not deliver on the appointed date , would I accept an alternative date, I said OK, delivery was re-scheduled for today between 7am -11am.
At 12 noon today Ikea delivery service (DHL) called to say there was a "system error" and my order cannot be delivered until next week.

so my question is can I get any compensation out of this ... I would like them to give me back the delivery fee of £35, or am I being overly optimistic.

  • I'd say it would be reasonable to ask for the delivery charge back after two failed deliveries.

Don't expect any more than that though.

I think that's fair enough. I got £25 back when i only got half a delivery one week and half the next. It was funny becasue we were desperate for a bed
and we got the bed minus the slats nd the mattress the first week and the slats and mattress the second week. If you dont ask you wont get.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I'd agree that IKEA should be reasonable about this and refund the £35 at least.
Even after 1 failed delivery I would think that justified, but 2 !!

I'd have a polite word with their C/S and explain the circumstances and ask If there's anything they could do about refunding the £35, (explaining about all the time you've wasted wating round for delivery) rather than demand it.

... contacted Ikea C.S and they say I can apply for compensation after the goods have been delivered next week, the amount wasn't discussed, but I will post back here on the eventual outcome, thanks to all who replied.
  • i would reject the delivery, if/whe it comes, and do a chargeback for full purchses price- thats the only way they will learn, i guess.. (any claim for lost interest on your money is something to consider, but unlikely to get far..

then go and buy from a decent shop!

We had issues with the kitchen we bought from Ikea we spent £3500 and they were supposed to deliver in March, We didn't get the kitchen until August and they refused to give any goodwill. It was ridiculous, but it's definitely a try!
