Land Finder Sites

Hi I am thinking about the possibility of building my own home in the next twelve months as it can work out up to 40% cheaper. There are lots of land / plot finder sites that need a subscription, does anyone have the codes / and or passwords to gain free access to the dat :xmassign: abases?

  • I admire you ambition but I dont think it that easy as gaining access to these "databases"!

I suggest you do your own searching and should you find a piece of available land and do not know who the owner is, you do a search on the land registery.

    Good luck.

I was under the impression it was alot more expensive to buy land and build your own house.

The basic formula when valuing land for building a house is to take a rough valuation of the size and type of property you've building and split it three ways; 1/3 plot, 1/3 build cost, 1/3 'profit'.

There's obviously a lot of variables in the build cost when you're self building, but there's potentially a lot of added value there.

To the OP, I'm afraid I don't know any codes and doubt there are many as this is how they support themsleves, though they might sell discounted subscriptions at the homebuilding shows?

I'd certainly be interested to know which were the better sites worth subscribing to at least, if anyone has subscribed?

Might be better to sell at auction as it seems that not many of us want to pay the subscription for fear of the site being rubbish! In comparison to the final cost, it's peanuts, but I still can't bring myself to subscribe!

    Where's your plot? ;)

The plot is East Riding of Yorkshire, in a small village nearish York
  • Is seriously looking for a plot of land

Have had enough of our current house and only way to make a move is to do what we have wanted to do for last 10 years or so and have our own built

Used to subscribe to alot of homebuilding magazines but let them waive for last few years

A good source as i remember was plot finder, would be interested in seeing if anybody has got an active account that i could have the use of for a while

    Cheers

    Pete
