New anti virus softwear

I am about to download free anti virus softwear, but am a bit of a tech dinosaur and not sure whether I should uninstall the old (Norton) softwear first.
Cheers for any advice.

Then post here for conflicting advice which free anti virus too use , we al have our favourite
  • Download and save the new anti virus software. Break contact with internet.Turn off/Disable Norton. Install and run the software you have just saved. Run the new anti virus software for a day or two until you are sure your happy with it, then remove Norton. Make sure the 2 don't run together as it may cause prob's. So if Norton runs on startup make sure you disable this feature on Norton and have the new one run instead.

WRONG, remove Norton with the removal tool first, before installing any alternative!

Please DONT ask for advice :rotfl:

Go to link kindly posted by espresso

    All are good

Now waiting for those demanding their choices are the correct one!
  • That's strange that the link posted shows Antivir as using more resources than Avast and AVG, as I'm sure I read on Avforums or somewhere this week that Antivir used less resources.
I have always used Avast and never had a problem, but having an AV program that uses less system resources has got to be a bonus, so was considering swapping to Antivir. Maybe I'll just stick with what I have. :)

There's one other* free (and Open Source, but less well-known) AntiVirus solution to add to the three in Espresso's post: ClamWin. All four do things slightly different ways, and have slightly different features.

    * anyone know of any more free AV products?
