Help on a train ticket to Edinburgh

I am not very good at finding cheap trian tickets (not bad at air, but c** at train). We need to travel on the 5th or 6th Jan from either Wellingborough or Northampton to Edinburgh Waverly, coming back on the 8th Jan.

I have looked at different porviders, and even gling down to london and back, cheapest I can get so far oos £81 each! (It would be cheaper to go to Pairs!).

If anyone has any ideas on how to do this more cost effectively please can you let me know.

Northampton to edinburgh wavely 6th 08:56 Advance single £19.50
Northampton to Birmingham NS 6th 09:17 off peak day single £11.30
Birmingham NS to Edinburgh Waverly 6th 11:03 Advance single £14
or if not to late to travel;
Northampton to Edinburgh Waverly 6th 16:56 Advance single £13

Edinburgh Waverly to Northampton 8th 08:52 Advance single £19.50
or if not to late to travel;
Edinburgh Wavely to Northampton 8th 18:52 Advance single £13
Total: £44.80 or if go via late trains £26

The Advance ticket do sell out quick so get them early and you must travel on the booked trains

If traveling on the 5th then do the same as above but the 11:03 from Birmingham to Edinburgh cost £24.50
