Dial-a-phone - mobile insurance

Hi All,
Wasn't entirely sure of the best place to post this so thought this would be as good a place as any.
I had a look at my most recent bank statement online and noticed a direct debit that is coming out monthly - it's only about £4.50 but I had no idea what it was for.
It was listed as Allianz Insurance so I contacted them and eventually tracked down an account within their extended warranty department. Turns out this is mobile phone insurance for a phone that I bought back in Feb 2000 - needless to say I no longer use that phone and probably haven't for about 7 years.
The insurance was a 'free trial' for 3 months that I was supposed to cancel if I didn't want. It's been nearly 9 years since then and I have had absolutely no contact from them.
I appreciate this is partly my fault for not cancelling it - but have contacted them for a refund anyway. They are saying that it was a self manage policy and as such they will not refund me any of the costs - and that I could potentially obtain a refund from Dial-a-phone who I bought the phone off of. I have contacted Dial-a-phone and they have said that they wont issue a refund but that Allianz should.
Anyone have any ideas if there is anything I can do about this?
Thanks in advance,
Brett
P.s Yes I know I should have noticed the direct debit ages ago

Can you prove that you haven't had the phone for seven years? If you can, they should give you your money back. The phone is the subject matter of the policy so if you haven't got it they can't charge you.0

Thanks for your response - potentially I could contact T Mobile who I took the contract out with and try to obtain some sort of letter that shows when I last used the phone?0

I have also been having a direct debit taken out of my account every month to "offshore death cover" for £265.25 since Oct 1998...
no idea what its for - what should I do?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have just reclaimed my overpayment to Allianz for 3 phone insurances dating back to 2003 and have been sent a cheque for Over £880.00
So Dont give up.0 -
I also noticed payments going from my account to Allianz and on investigation found it to be linked to a phone I had from Dial A Phone but returned within a few days as it was unsuitable.
Anyone know if theres a time window for these claims? I cancelled the direct debit several months ago?
