Does my credit card protect me from purchases made abroad?

Hi all,
A few quick questions for a nubie. Please help.

1) Am I eligable for the extra insurance that is automaticaly provided if I purchase goods from abroad?
2) Does it make any difference if I purchase these goods in person from a foreign country, or from a foreign website whilst I'm in the UK?

3) If I purchase an item on ebay, would you recommend I pay through PayPal via credit card even if I have to pay the sellers 4% fees.
4) Does it make much difference if I pay PayPal via debit card (switch) rather that Credit Card?

Thanks in advance. :xmassign:
