Best way to heat a single room

Thanks for the replies.
I'd like to do a trial but it would mean buying a heater specifically for the purpose so I wondered if anyone else had done a similar trial.
Does anyone have an opinion on whats the most efficient type of electric heater.

You don't need an opinion, as there is a definitive answer. That is that all forms of electrical heater have the same efficiency, and that efficiency is 100%.
So it doesn't matter if you get an £30 oil filled radiator, a convector heater, or borrow Granny's old 1/2/3/ bar electric fire they all cost the same to run in that they produce the same amount of heat for your money.
The only difference is the way they deliver the heat.0 -
At least with an electric heater, unlike with gas central heating, it's not costing you owt whilst it's not in use, I suppose...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Well, Kim, I don't know the speed of heat and the equalising process.
Maybe the door size is important or how wide it is opened or how quickly it's shut.
And of course you have to factor in the return journey.
I would guess a 25% loss of stored heat per times the door is opened.0 -
hi there:
my husband and i are in a similar situation - we're postgrad students and we work a lot from home. to save on energy, we've been using our space heater to heat up the office and using the central gas sparingly. however, when i checked the electricity readings today, i discovered we've used more units in the past month than we did from july - oct. whereas our gas reading is 20 units less. when you factor in that gas is cheaper than electricity, it can make a huge difference.
so the verdict for me seems to be to use the gas more often, but turn off the radiators in rooms you're not using. you could use a space heater for short periods of time, but we've sometimes had it on for a few hours at a time and it probably just burns money like crazy...0
