If you get the PS3 you should be able to use the PS2 games on it at least, saves shelling (no pun intended!) out on new games from the start!?
For me, the Wii has to be the most fun games console, but doesnt do the war games your hubby may like/want!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Agree OP, PS3 is the best because a) he can play all his old PS2 games on it and b) it also has a blue ray player built in which is a bonus.
In terms of games, the 360 is probably as good as the PS3 plus a dam sight cheaper, but for the reasons above, PS3 may be better for you.0 -
I thought backwards compatibility was only with the 60gb PS3 which they ditched not long after it came out. I'm pretty sure that the new PS3 don't play the PS2 games.
However, the xbox 360 just can't be beaten for games. Much better games available on the 360. Unless he wants blu-ray as well, the 360 is a cracker of a deal at the current prices. Also check out sainsburys, they were doing the basic xbox 360 for £99 and the pro for £129.99 at one point. Not sure if the offer is still running though.0 -
Traveller1981 only 60GB PS3's are backward compatiable.
The 360 vs PS3 debate rages on. Some games are only available on one or other platform (eg Gran Turismo is Playstation only).0 -
Sorry people, but you can't play PS2 games on the current model of PS3- don't buy one expecting to be able to.
If your OH already likes his PS2 then I would suggest either a PS3 or an xbox360 rather than a wii- The wii is brilliant, but quite different from the other 2.
What kinds of games does he play? If he likes Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo, then the PS3 is pretty much a must, as those games aren't available for the 360. Otherwise, there's not very much between them in terms of games.
The PS3 does have a bluray player as standard, which makes it much better value, but only if you have an HDtv- otherwise you won't notice the difference.
As for the price difference- it's because you get a lot more when you buy a PS3- the cheapest xbox has no hard drive (ps3 has 80Gb), and the online services for PS3 are free of charge- with the xbox you have to pay a subscription. That said, if he won't play online then it shouldn affect your decision!
I'd suggest finding out a) what kinda of games he already likes on his PS2, and b) what his mates have got- if they all have the one machine then it makes sense to get him the same one, so they can play against each other online.
Saw a couple of blinding deals on PS3 in HMV the other day- I think it was Console+LittleBigPlanet(really good platform game) + FIFA09 (football) for £3000 -
blu-ray whats that??
all his ps2 games are things with guns and war scenes in i dont think he will be going online playing games on the ps3 ( we have no telephone line would that make any difference anyway)i can see ive started something with this debate lol....always send a smile as it costs nothing..

Blue ray is the next DVD format. Makes picture quality better and allows more data to be stored on one CD. Unless you have a decent HD 1080p TV it's fairly useless for now though.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Thanks for confirming. I was almost convinced that was the case as I remember the amount of moaning that went on when Sony ditched the UK 60Gb PS3.
Back to the OP, get a 360, there is a much range of games that is more in line with what your OH will have been playing on the PS2.0 -
lol still confused as to which one to get 50/50 for both from looks of replies..always send a smile as it costs nothing..
