Vauxhall Zafira engine problems...anyone able to help?

Hi everyone, can anyone help me with this one!?
About four weeks ago my 2001 Y reg engine went to the big engine graveyard in the sky.
I eventually got an engine from the scrap yard, I was assured it was a runner and it does run.....but badly (at the moment). Only thing is, it's a 2002 engine with a few differences so we had to replace lots of things to get it going.
None of the electrics have been changed so we are using a newer engine with the old electrics.
Here is a list of what happens:
1) Car starts perfectly and revs just as normal.
2) When no revs applied and engine idles very badly as if it's going to stall - but doesn't actually stall.
3) When driving, it will only drive in first and second gear, with foot to the floor on the accelerator and only gets to a max of 20 mph! Can't go further up the gearbox for fear of stalling.
Anyone out there got any ideas? All help welcome!:huh:

All sorted now...turned out to be an electrical problem stopping the fuel getting through!
