The area north of Old Street but south of Islington always used to be very cheap and incredibly central. Ditto Kings Cross. The latter is also very handy if you fancy some drugs or paid-for sex.

These are the cheapest I can find within 3 (RM) miles of WC1:

3 bed in Hackney, £300 pcm

2 bed in Southwark, £315 pcm

£300 and £315 can't be right surely! That says a 3-bed place and it looks big and quite lovely. Even if it's a shared flat it's cheap as chips.

    And the 2nd one.

So what's this rubbish about London being expensive??
  • It's pretty near Murder Mile.

What is murder mile? Is that Jack the Ripper?

We need to identify and cull the badduns in society.

How much nicer life would be if all violent and anti-social crime were eradicated.

How much does a frontal labotomy cost on the NHS -v- monitoring/investigating and incarcerating this scum?
  • I remember looking at one of those flats in Russell Court when I was flathunting in 1998. Can't remember the exact price but it would have been about £85,000.

    Very small and very hot!
No reliance should be placed on the above.

I reckon it's weekly not monthly - I saw a one-bed flat to rent in the same street as the Hackney one about five years ago and it was £180pw. And not very nice.

It's great to be given exact price examples from the past.

An area in Hackney where people (mostly black teenagers) get shot a lot.
