Ladies Things - TMI x 1000!

I apologise now for squicking anyone out but after being told I cannot get a doctors appointment until Friday - I'd like a little bit of help now please :)

I'm having seriously heavy periods - to the point of losing massive clots and having to shower and change many times a day. There's leaking onto bed clothes, clothes, underwear - everything. I cannot leave the house as within minutes i'm soaked through again, I'm wearing both sorts of protection and changing them each hour and sometimes even sooner. I'm sitting on old towels/blankets/newspaper and just generally feeling lethargic, weak, thirsty and cannot concentrate on a thing. I'm dreading having to open the door if the postie or anyone knocks delivering something [anyone else can clear off today :( :rotfl: ] It is my first period for approx 6 months and it's like all rolled into one. I have bad period pains - but not as bad as they could be so quietly grateful.

Can anyone suggest anything that may help tame it (lots of drinking, something particular to eat/take - I have iron tablets somewhere - I'm just about to start hunting them out as i'm feeling very weak] Also, can anyone recomend a washing powder to as Daz simply isn't working.

Thank you everyone - and I'm sorry for the grossness but after yesterday (same stuff) I cannot go through another few days like this - I've taken today and most likely tomorrow off but I can't get away with not going out Friday as I'm at uni all day through till 5. I'll take any help I can get!

    oo, poor you :(

Regarding the washing powder, when my night-time protection let me down last time  , I soaked the items in Ariel bio for a few hours, and then washed them. That seems to get most of it out. Sometimes I have had to resort to bleaching white things clean as well.

Hope you can get some medical help soon. Sounds like a nightmare! Maybe you could try ringing NHS direct or contacting a pharmacist to see if there's anything you can do in the meantime?

Your surgery should arrange a home visit if you are this bad.

Phone again and make them understand how ill you are - or do you have a friend or relative who could phone for you? The receptionist may have thought you were just having a "normal" heavy period. What's happening is way beyond that. If you continue like this until Friday, you could be very poorly.
  • Hi, you must see a doctor today! Phone up the surgery and insist on an emergency appointment. If they are not open at the moment phone NHS direct and tell them exactly what you've told us here.

You need to get proper medical advice and assistance asap.

Please don't worry about missing uni this week - they will understand that you're not well and you can easily get any notes, etc. from fellow students.

Phone the doctor now and let us know how you get on.

    Take care.

  • Thanks for the push guys :) I'll ring the doctors and try for another appointment, NHS Direct always make me go to the hospital though so I don't want to call them unless forced.

hi there! firstly, huge sympathies with you...if you tell your doctor where in your cycle you are and in particular that you have not had a period for sometime, they should be insistent upon seeing you. it sounds to me (and please do not take this advice - it is just a guess from my own experience) that your hormones are a bit out of sync. do not worry, if you have a decent doctor they will talk you through your options and help find a solution for you. you will be able to control this, whether it be by medication or even your diet, but get an appointment with your doctors first, as that will give you a starting point....GOOD LUCK!!!!

I'd agree about calling NHS direct straight away - they can help with out of hours doctors appointments.

It sounds like you could be haemorraging, (that's if your getting through more than 2 pads an hour) have you taken any kind of pill recently, e.g morning after pill or could you have had a miscarriage?

Hope you've managed to get something sorted out today re the doctors, but if not and it's still as heavy please go the hospital, as it does sound a bit out of control. You don't say whether this is normal for you when you do have a period, but the fact you say you haven't had one for six months and are suffering so badly doesn't sound right.

I suffer myself (thanks to a fibroid) so I know some of what you're going through - although I've never been as bad as that.
    Hope you're soon feeling better.

Hi,I suffered a similar thing last year. After 36 hours I started to feel light headed and went to A&E,spent 3 days in Hospital and had to have a blood transfusion, was on drips etc. Please get some medical advise,I was told that due to the amount of blood lost it was a medical emergency !

Sorry,I'm not trying to scare you,and everything was fine in the end (turned out to be a fibroid),and was given medication to stop the bleeding, but if you carry on bleeding like this you could end up very anaemic and will feel like sh8t.

Please let us know how you get on X
  • Hello :)

Thanks again, I couldn't get an appointment until dinnertime today, I called NHS Direct this morning as I really was feeling quite whoozy and faint and they put me through to a nurse - she told me to rest and get lots of liquids (and mentioned PCOS which was scary) and to get to the GP that day - or A&E if I couldn't. I told her I had the appointment and she was happier after that and we went a little while after.

Doctor has given me some tablets to take four times a day for 2 weeks [500mg! :|] to stop the bleeding and a telling off for not getting there sooner :rotfl: which I know I should do.

I've also rung my tutor and taken the day off :) Thanks everyone!
