external hardrive problem

I have removed the hard drive from another pc which will not boot at all keeps restarting and put it in an adaptor to plug into pc.it shows up in device manager as a working device..

it does not show up in my computer, in computer manager it appears in the disk manager correctly but it does not have a drive letter.how can i get it to show in my computer and have a drive letter

  • Right click on the drive in Disk Management and click Change Drive Letter and Paths and there should be an option to assign a letter.

    ty i will try this when i get home , as i need to get this data from off the drive.

    i have also read on some other sites that the drive may need reformatting before it can be accessed and a drive letter assigned to it, is this true?. many thanks
