What to Pack for a Nile Cruise

Hi,

I am going on a nile cruise (Presidential Ship) in a few weeks and am not sure what to pack or how much money to take. Can anyone also recommend any additional trips we should take?

Thanks

    Immodium. :D
  • Yep, I second that! I've never met anyone that has done a Nile cruise and not needed it.
You can have a 'Tab' on board for drinks and pay at the end of your stay by CC.
The tours from the boat are almost always included, so shouldn't need extra for those.
Light clothing, hat, suntan lotion, insect repellent.
Its a cheap country and good for bargains, especially spices if you like to cook.
Beggars and pickpockets everywhere and haggling is easy, if when they tell you your offer is an insult to their ancestors!
    You'll love it!!!!

We take water purification tablets and even use it on bottled water.
That might sound paranoid but we've not needed the immodium, so I reckon it's worth it.

Take some light e.g. cotton clothes but ones with good coverage from the sun e.g. long white cotton skirt or zip off trousers.
Take a hat - there is no shelter in some places e.g. valley of the kings.
I would take one fleece as it can be quite cold on early mornings (not for long, but it is the desert).

It's worth going to a sound and light show if that's an option and Abu Simble is definitely worth it.
If you get the option, then fly to Abu simble rather than go by coach. It's more expensive but the coach trip is about 4 hours.

If you know anyone else that has been then you might save some money by asking if you can borrow their fancy dress for the obligatory "galibea party".

Pair of matching small pistols & a large pot of red nail varnish :-)
  • I have been there in dec and it was not that hot so take a light jumper for the evenings

I have only ever been ill once in egypt and that was on my first visit, I put it down to dehydration so take some dehydration powder with you and add extra salt to your food, you will have a lovely time and you just need to be firm but polite to people, you will get hassle but just say no thanks, you will soon get the hang of it when you are out and about

take some wet ones with you as it can be really dusty, they are lovely and refreshing, take a torch too for when you are in the temples and something to fan yourself with as the air down in the temples is hot and stale, the money is also filthy so you can use the wet ones to keep clean, maybe get at little bottle of that antiseptic gel

it's going to be fab - enjoy
  • Hi there
Having been to Luxor, all trips stated in previous posts are worth a visit. Valley of Kings/Queens and many others. Tip, buy bottled water from hotel not from stallholders (gippy tummy) also if you do not like being harressed in market hire a donkey and cart for the day, very cheap and worth every penny. Best of all , enjoy your holiday.
    Regards
