Any Views On Solar Security Lights

Options
I have a cottgage down a dark path and wish to get some lighting but do not wish to get involved in costly electrics etc. I have seen security lighting which is charged via solar panel. I have heard good and bad just wondered if anyone had any views or knew of any deals?

Thank you in advance

Similarly I did not want the hassle or cost of wiring so I bought a solar powered security light from http://www2.westfalia.net/ over 18 months ago. The first one I had delivered stoped working after a few weeks so I returned it and was sent a replacement (along with an orange spoung cake as an apology)
Since then I have had no problems at all, you can adjust the movement sensitivity/ light sensitivity and the time the light stays on for.
I am delighted with mine :j
  • I think it would really depend on how bright you want the lights to be.
In my experience solar lights, do not give off very bright light.
  • Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. AT this time of year when there isnt a lot of daylight the lights dont really give a lo of light off for a long time.It all depends on where they are located and how much light you are looking for. I have some in my garden for lighting up the back fence and they have stopped already even although they were on earlier. If you get them cheap enough then try one or two and see how long they last before buying loads of them.
  • I have them on the path leading to my house, they are pretty, but like everyone else said, they don't give a lot of light. If you want them for security reasons, maybe you should opt for lights with a sensor that switches them on when you approach the house?
  • If you go for solar lights, make sure they are LED lights, not halogen.
This one is detachable, so can be used in shaded places as long as it re-charged weekly:

  • Whatever you choose to use, please think of the environment (and your neighbours) and ensure that any secuirty lighting is installed properly.

Thanks but surely you can not get anymore environmently friendly than solar lighting
  • I'm not talking about energy consumption - think light pollution (which is also a form of wasted energy!) i.e. making sure that the light goes where it's needed and not wasted into the sky!

so if a light is turned on to serve it's purpose, it is wasted energy?

light pollution is not high on my list of energy saving tbh. in fact money saving is more a priority than conservation and energy saving.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.
