Trouble with sold item

Comments

  • Playing devils advocate here, how does one prove the original contrition of an item sold on eBay?
I mean a photo only proves the condition of an item at the time it was taken, so how does one prove the same item was sent?
Everyone slag’s off PayPal, they have to side with one party so someone is going to be upset.

:rotfl: would anyone really be that brazen? okay I guess the first thing would be that you wouldn't refund, I'd personally email him and tell him I was reporting him to ebay for fraud?? take a photo of the packaging and whatever item he did send if there was one, and tell him to go whistle for his refund he obviouslly was happy with the item sent after all....Then if he opened a dispute send both the photo to paypal that i used for my listing and photos of what was received back with a long account of the whole situation.
Paypal aren't always so bad, when I started out I was selling Jewellery, I had a customer from Germany claim that she received empty packaging (all packaged and complete but no earings inside the box which was also wrapped in parcel wrap) and I remember being very worried she would win but Paypal sided with me on this one after I explained that I personaly check every item and why would I send empty packaging all the way to Germany signed for at that!
Some people really do try it on :rotfl:

Thanks for the reassurance! have not had this happen to me- yet, but the more I read on here- the more of an ebay hypercondriac I become! I do get a mixed bag of buyers but have been sold fake items before and lost out as I lose recorded delivery fees when sending stuff back :( though grateful to get anything back!

Good to see paypal has sided with one seller- it is reassuring! its rare on here you get to read about cases like that!
  • I definitely see your point, chippy minton. I think if I ever sell anything again, I'm going to get someone to video me at the post office putting the (perfect condition) item into the addressed jiffy bag and then handing it over the counter!!! Silly I know but I'd never be in this situation again!

I've written to him now saying that I'm going to contact royal mail for an investigation and asking him to report any visible damage he noticed on the jiffy bag. Hopefully this will show him that I'm not just going to hand over a refund when I know I'm in the right.

    Thanks, you guys!

If the item was sent sealed and there was no damage to the package, the buyer is trying it on. The photos etc. only serve to try to intimidate the buyer into backing down.

Or possibly the seller (not for a moment saying the OP is) so who do paypal side with?

Paypal side with whoever paypal believe.

Did you send it recorded delivery, & that he signed for it to say it was in perfect condition when it arrived?

If sent RD, the buyer is only signing for receipt of the unopened envelope - there could be anything in it of any condition.

I would call his bluff, if the item listing clearly shows the box was sealed.

Respond saying that the item posted was the exact one in the listing, which is clearly sealed. They could open a dispute , but would have to return the item to you for a refund anyway - I suspect if they are trying it on then they won't.

You do run the risk of a negative, but too many honest people are scared of this - you have the right to leave a comment replying and refering to the buyers feedback if anything negative has been said about them.
  • I'm having a similar thing happen. I sold an item (unwanted and unused gift - mint condition) and sent it but the buyer has said they haven't received it - all other items sent on the same day have arrived. They just said "it's not arrived and I'd like a refund". I've been e-baying for ages and I must admit I just have a bad feeling about this. It was quite an expensive item as well and sold for over £10 (which admitedly is half the RRP). I know I could claim it back off the postal service as I have proof of postage but it just seems a bit "off". I have e-mailed the buyer and asked if it's arrived but it's now 3 days later and I've not had a response. What does everyone else think?
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
  • As sellers we can no longer leave negative feedback so the options are:

    1) leave no feedback

    2) leave very carefully worded positive feedback

To check if the buyer has won lots of items but not received feedback (possibly due to deserving -ve) use the goofbay tool http://www.goofbay.com/ebay_bid_history_tool.html

To leave positive feedback that will not be removed but will warn other sellers how about "Thank you for accepting refund for item tampered with in post"?
