What benefits could I realistically claim

Hi,

I am currently claiming JSA but I am unable to hold down a job due to my Dyspraxia and mild ASD, I was all set and ready to go back to work but following an assault at the weekend where I received a severe laceration to my face, I am now panicing at the fact of going outside, I could not even manage a trip round the supermarket today without feeling very scared.

I know I can claim Incapacity or whatever it is called now but am I entitled to anything Else?

  • Best get your claim to Employment Support Allowance made 1st(new name for IB)

This doesn't mean its money for nothing though, under new benefit although you still need to provide med certs from GP, you'll also attend a Work Capability Assessment, is all about the work you can do now if your illness stops you from doing your usual job & also you'll have to attend Work Focus Interviews at the Jobcentre or Pathways provider(depending on how your office is run)

Maybe entitled to DLA but this is a long drawn out application & can takes months to get sorted
  • I do want to eventually work but at the moment I am unable unless I have someone with me leave the house, while I am on benefits I plan on getting some college courses in to help me with future career prospects.

I will put my claim in for the new benefit in tomorrow and cancel my claim for JSA.

    Many thanks

  • I would have thought you may be eligble for Disability Living Allowance - you can get Disability Working Allowance if you are in employment too - hope everything goes OK.
