A suggestion to avoid future online issues is to sign up for Verified by Visa. This comes up and asks you for certain security information and a password before the transaction is authorised.

Thats the thing, i already am signed up for verified by visa, hence why i cant see how this has happened.

Went into my bank this morning and i now have to wait for fraud forms to be sent out before im refunded, was told this will take a minimum of 10 days :(

10 days is outrageous, given the circumstances of your situation.

I know, i even had to return a top back to a shop that i brought for xmas day a few days before all this happened, to get a refund, just so we had a little money.

After all this is over, im shutting my bank account down with them, they have been no help what so ever, ive got an autistic son who needs feeding a particular diet which we have no money to buy and barclays dont even care enough to extend my over draft.

Well after this i will be taking my money else where.

ok, just to update, i just recieved a phone call from the insurance companys fraud department and asked after giving my the persons name if i knew them etc, which i dont, then they said that the insurance was done online via the internet, and that they dont ask for the 3 didgit security code on the back of the card, so that it could possibly be that someone got there numbers mixed up when typing in there card details and it just happened to be my account number. Is this even possible

Highly unlikely. A card number is traditionally 16 digits long, and the last digit is a check digit. If the person got a few numbers wrong when inputting their card number there is only a 10% chance that the check digit at the end will still be correct.

And even if they didn't check the CVV or the address, the expiry date and name would also have to match your account otherwise the auth would fail (assuming the insurance company bothered to do an online auth).
  • My 89 year old disabled Mum has had her Barclays Debit Card used fraudulently which sent her seriously overdrawn, so the card was stopped about 4 weeks ago & a new card issued & sent to me (I live in France) so I could could keep tabs on her account online & make sure all her bills are paid. As I haven't yet received her new PIN number I haven't been able to access her account as yet. I telephoned her bank today, for another matter & it appears the 'cancelled' card has been used as recently as yesterday! How???
