Thanks for the replies - think it is a bit too advanced for my partner and our budget is rapidly dwindling but may purge the cash off Christmas just cos I think it will be a good long term investment won't it?
I personally think TRVs are good for controlling the heating and therefore saving money on heating bills but if we move in the next couple of years the spend may not be justified - especially if the new buyers come in and replace the boiler for a more modern combi - any suggestions?

I'd still do it. You can get decent valves for about £12-15 (Danfoss) for the pair and it should give you a reasonable reduction in your heating bill as you can turn the radiators in rooms you are not using often down low.0

Yes I would agree that fitting TRVs can be the easiest way of saving money and has one of the quickest returns on investment so even if you are due to move in a couple of years it would still be worth doing this to save money.
They should be fitted in all rooms other than the one containing the thermostat. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Oh - we have an old dial thermostat in the main living room that has a large double and a single - it is an L shaped lounge. The thing is that the heating only seems to come on at the click around 22degrees but it doesn't actually seem to control the temperature.
Should I replace that with a digital one AND TRVs? - or just the TRVs in every other room?
Thanks0 -
The thermostat might be knackered. We have an old one which we have set to around 22 but the temperature never gets anywhere near that. I'm not going to replace it yet as hopefully next year the whole heating system is going to be changed and I'll do it then.0
