Hi everyone im wondering if you could help me please? im 23 and have twins who have lots of health problems. i claim benefits of child benefit, child tax credits and income support ad i am in the process of claiming DLA for my children but have not heard anything yet. Ive just found out im pregnant and so me and my partner are thinking of moving in together -he claims Incapacity benefit as well as housing benefit at his home.
I was wonderig if we move in together (ive not told him im pregnant and we have not bee together for long and lives a long way away from me so not sure if he would want to move to be honest and i cant move as ive just got my son into a special school which is the best around my area) what will happen to our benefits? will i stop getting all mine benefits and he will have to claim for me and my children or would i be able to claim for him and would he get income support with me or would he get incapacity benefit and i would get nothing? ive tried looking on the internet but cant find anything
thanks in advance

You will be treated as a couple with 2 children(3 later on),in that respect you will get income support from which his I/B will be deducted as income, but depending on circumstances premiums maybe added to the I/S,you would also qualify for c/tax and housing benefit, the dla if/when awarded would be paid on top of all other benefits, and may depending on the award attract additional ctc0

You may be able to claim Carers Allowance provided one of your children qualifies for DLA at the middle rate care component - it's worth trying.0

carers allowance would mean an equivalent amount would be deducted from your IS, but you may also qualify for an additional premium on your IS (worth £27.75). Not 100% sure how it impacts IS as the person you're looking after normally has to sign a form to say they know you're claiming it as it can reduce benefits they're in recipt of -- but I've been told that if I claim CA for looking after my DH we won't lose anything in return for that premiumCheryl0

Also push on with your DLA claims,as being awarded that at mid/high care massively increases your tax credits. Also remember that even if it looks as if yiu get less as a couple you will only have one lot of housing costs and utilities etc don't increase greatly,so I'm sure you'll be fine.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

The premium thats affected by carers is severe disability premium, however sdp can only be paid if their are no other adults in the house, unless they also get mrc DLA,so what they have told you is correct,if you claim carers and get the carers premium you wont lose anything but will in fact be £27 a week better off0 -
thanks for clarifying that for meCheryl0
