Hi there,
a few years ago I got someone to cap the existing wooden fascia and soffits with brown upvc, I suppose no maintenance thing got me interested. Seemed to be good enough workmen did a good enough job, but now I notice where the gable and other parts where it gets the most sunlight the brown upvc is beginning to fade.
is this normal ?
thanks
Tina

No, it suggests to me that the product is not very well UV stabilised.0

I enquired with a local company about some brown cladding and they said that they could not guarantee that it would not fade in the sunlight.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
we use swish upvc fascias and soffits who offer a 10 year manufacturers guarantee against fading /discolouration on woodgrain foiled products unlike most .please next time you have the job done have the original timbers removed and total replacement not cappedif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

Low grade upvc goes yellow in sunlight. Often you see it on people's front doors. Are the company still around?0

Sounds like they have used a *cheap* product & capping is just hiding the problem.
A6 is right Swish is one of the best on the market and is perceived as being *pricey* but you get what you pay for.
If you wish to use a more buget product please please use full replacement0 -
Hmm. We paid £1300 (from memory) to get new boards, gutters and downpipes for the house and the front of the garage. Ours are fading badly and I'm sure the company we bought them from gave us a 10 year guarantee. Anyone know if such a guarantee is worth the paper it's written on?Norn Iron Club Member 3300

Yes if its an insurance backed independant guarentee. No if its specific to the company you bought the goods from unless of course they have been around for a long time.0 -
Yes PVCu fades, goes brittle and is not maintanance free. Its replaceable. I think you can;t beat wood. My soffits etc have lasted 66 years with regular painting. Brown is worse that white for fading and there is nothing you can do, sorry. PS if you had all the timber removed as suggested, you would probably have warped fixtures too. :-90
