  • What charges would you like to reclaim and how long has the card been closed?

My previous Capital One account was closed off in 2004. However, I recently made a claim for the default charges. They refused to pay off the full amount, now I have reported them to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

If you still have the statements or know the dates on which the charges were made, write to you credit card company demanding it all back.

If not, you could phone them and ask for duplicate statements. Some banks might provide these free, but most charge a £10.00 fee.

Use Martins templates to ask the bank for your statements.
