iPod Touch 2nd Generation - 8gb

Hi, this is my first post here and this may be in the wrong place but I wanted to post about the new iPods. I've been trying to find how cheap I can get it this week as I really want one and the RRP of £169 was out of budget for the month. Annoyingly HMV student discount doesn't apply to hardware. However, in the end I've managed to get it down to £153.90 using discount and promotions from Dixons. They've price matched Amazon a £158.90 which was cheapest although has stupidly high P+P unless you can wait about a week. Also Dixons have an offer where you can save £5 if spending over £149 by using promotional code "SAVE5" - this brings it down to £153.90 with 3/4 day free delivery. Saving you £15.10 off the RRP! Amazon are also offering a free case for it but having read the reviews on it, it seems better to save the fiver and cost of P+P and buy one when the need arises.

Try and see if you get a discount through the Apple education store...
  • I've just ordered 1 of these for my daughter £149 + free next day delivery @ The Link (part of Dixons)
  • Apple don't offer discount on iPods, also thelink was 158.90 for me and out of stock when I checked at lunchtime
  • Argos have these reduced to £128.

The Link and Argos are almost definately 1st gen versions - the OP specifically asks for 2nd gen. Easiest way to tell is that 2nd gen has the volume keys on the left hand side, the 1st gen has none. Higher education discount (only available by accessing the Apple Store through a university network) could give the best discount.

Thanks, I tried the Apple store from uni (Herts) but it only discounted the higher end products.

The link is 2nd generation I have a 8gb in front of me. Came next day delivery on Saturday. Just charging it up and putting some songs on it for her birthday. The speaker is part of the headphone socket, its tinny.

Argos have the 1st generation 16gb for £150 plus £10 back with update. I got that one today too.

Both for presents for kids, 1 for birthday and other Xmas

The ipod from the link came in a very small plastic both with one ipod, headphones, usb cable and ipod dock attachment

The argos one came in a much bigger box about 60% bigger
