You shouldn't mix money with politcs ! Now thats a topic for a future hugely popular thread !
Anyhow what about England ...London in particular. Should a bomb go off somewhere there, you could be shot the head seven times by nervous gung- ho metropolitan police executioners at any time while sitting on a train.
Not only was the Met not prepared to take action to prevent this happening again in the future , Blair when asked said he would do the same again and justified his shoot to kill without warning policy he had initiated, claiming it was the right and also necessary to protect the public !
At least when you were sent to the gallows you could defend yourself in court and were able to bid farewell to your loved ones !
As one of those posting above declared, you are safer in Dubai than you are in London, that's for sure.0 -
Amnesty International is a covert arm of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. As such, its "Human Rights" reports are worthless.
Amnesty conjures up toxic propaganda that serves to demonise an overseas nation. These reports are conveniently choreographed to coincide with an FCO operation against a "rogue regime". Bogus allegations of human rights abuse are used as the pretext for political destabilisation programs, or even as the fig leaf for military aggression.
Amnesty International is not what it seems. It is a slick propaganda network.
The same can be said for George Soros's "Human Rights Watch" - an equally sinister outfit.
There is much to be learnt from understanding the role of NGOs in suppressing reports of very real human rights abuses, like those waged against the Palestinians by the Israeli IDF, for example.
In the case of Israel, Soros's HRW was the only NGO allowed by the Israeli junta to "investigate" the 2002 massacre of Palestinians in the city of Jenin.
The HRW findings were naturally a whitewash. The HRW report claimed there was, in fact, no Jenin Massacre at all!
The irony is that half-wits swallow the racist lies spewed by Amnesty and HRW, yet fail to see the most enormous human rights violations committed by their very own governments.
What about the catastrophic loss of civilian lives in the genocidal wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan, anyone? What has Amnesty had to say about that?
The last time I checked the Iraq Body Count, it was reporting that Western forces had killed more than 600,000 Iraqi civilians..
Any criticism of that from Amnesty International? Thought not."If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

This discussion certainly shows the difficulties and some would say the double standards that often occur in trying to bring ethics into financial decisions. I wonder how many people worry about the money going to states who they like to condemn when filling their car's fuel tank? By all means make moral judgements for your own dealings but unless you are whiter than white avoid hectoring other people to follow your lead or parading your virtue.0

True regarding Barclays, I'd not invest with them either! Equally, I'm not a customer of HSBC!
We each do what we think is right for us. Please do not castigate other money savers for looking for higher rates based on dubious political grounds. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

I was expressing my opinion, which, when I last checked was allowed on this forum. You, just as I, are entitled to express your opinion too. And we disagree, and that's fine.
I think investing in UAE is morally wrong, it's my opinion. If you on the other hand don't, that's fine - however several people claimed that these laws and abuses didn't happen in the UAE, unfortunately they are mis-informed. I assume you think it's a good tip then, flying all the way to Dubai to open an account. Interesting Money Saving tip...
Presumably if someone opened a thread suggesting people invest in a UK company making truck-loads of gallows for Nigeria for mass executions (sadly this happens) as it has a good return, we would all be able to voice our concerns?
I agree the USA and many other countries also have a terrible human rights record. And many times when people try and save/invest ethically they end up partially funding something suspect, somewhere along the line.
As for others castigating the work done tirelessly by Amnesty and award winning investigative journalism such as Private Eye, really aren't terribly well read. Let hope they don't believe all they read from suspect sources such as wikipedia... (however for those who enjoy that organ, I refer you to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates ). Amnesty certainly does have documents relating to the Iraq war.
I agree the mass casualties in Iraq and other current war zones are atrocious.
It's a moral choice, if you are happy, provided you know the facts, then fine. Case closed.

There is a well known aphorism that 'people vote with their feet.'
Well the Gulf is literally teeming with aspiring immigrants and workers with millions more from both East and West queuing to get in..The population in Qatar , as an example, is 90 percent immigrant (workers) with locals representing only ten percent of the population !...and that must mean something. In contrast how many immigrants are queuing up to emigrate /work in North Korea ? QED0
