Tax Credits, which person to put in the YOU column?

Hi all,

Filling in an application for tax credits, does anyone have any advice for who should be in the YOU column. I am doing a Joint claim for tax credits, so if I was the full time worker, and the OH was part-time, does it matter who is put in the YOU column or the PARTNER column?

Reason I ask is, when claiming Child benefit, the You column is for the lower earner, as Contributions go to the person in the claim. So just wanted to see if anyone knew whether its the case when claiming for Tax Credits?

Thanks

In the YOU column you put the details of who is doing the claim.

so if its you then you put your name , d.o.b etc

PARTNER would be your husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend
  • It doesnt matter which person is on the form first.
  • What happens if only one of you is earning and paying tax?

Should it then be completed by the person in employment?

  • The form should be completed by both partners regardless of who works or claims benefits.

It really makes no difference who puts their details in the left/right columns.
