    I'm glad you're pleased with it; my point was that if I'd just bought a new boiler which is supposed to be far more efficient, I'd like to know if it really was and get the plumber to sort it out if it wasn't.

    If you're happy to wait a whole year to see if it's working properly and saving you money, that's up to you.

    You don't need a whole year's meter readings to get an idea if it's costing a reasonable amount to run - a one week period would be enough to give at least some idea.

    Take a look at the boiler efficiency database here;

    well worth a look before deciding on what boiler to buy.
  • A re-assurance: I fitted the Valliant Boiler 824 turbo max around March time this year and I thoroughly recommend it. It's well built and has given me excellent service. I fitted it myself except for the Gas connections together with the all my rads.

    Overall, I fitted 13 rads, the Valliant Boiler with Thermostatic valves and new piping which cost me about £2000.

    The Vaillant make is well respected by tradesman.

    Hope this helps.
    I have learnt that providing excellence gets you what you deserve and not what you want !!!
  • When we renovated a house, we couldn't get a plumber for love nor money. Ended up doing all of the plumbing and central heating ourselves and paying a plumber a £150 for 1 hours work to commission the boiler (for CORGI purposes).

    Unless this is your own personal house then you are breaking Gas Safety Regulations, A Corgi registered engineer has to install the boiler along with all gas pipe work NOT merely commission the boiler
    ;D

    Mike_gas....just to clear the point up......Even if it's your own personal house you cannot install boiler and gas pipework unless you are a member of a class of persons approved by the HSE... ie CORGI
    Can you imagine every tom !!!!!! and harry messing about in their house with something as dangerous as gas :o
