We are trying to advertise a room to rent out but have no joy with spare room.co.uk or eassyroom mate .com, any suggestions where we can do this, ie student exchange or anything etc etc.

Are you specifically looking for a foreign student?

If not, could you just take out an ad in your local newspaper? An ad in the local newsagent's window? An ad on the noticeboard in your local church? The human resources department of a big local employer? The accommodation department at the local college? Just give them a call and ask.

Old-fashioned yes, but round here that is the way that rooms for rent seem to work rather than that internet thingie.

gumtree.com is a good idea (assuming you're not just looking for a foreign student). I used it loads in London, but since moving away I've suggested it to friends and it has worked for them. Make sure you post some pictures.
