Hello,
I have an HD TV and want to connect a PC. I have a DVI out on my PC and HD in on my TV, there is also VGA in on my TV. Not sure which would be best.
Does anyone have any advice?

You can get a DVI to HDMI lead with (shouldnt be anyways) no loss of quality:idea:0

You can also get DVI to VGA and you'll not notice any loss in quality. You'll probably find your computer comes with a DVI-VGA adapter and all you need is a VGA-VGA lead. Oh, and you'll need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack plug/twin phono lead as well to go from the soundcard to audio in for the telly.0

That's strange you mention that and I was told in the shop by the laptop salesman that this is so, sound does not use HDMI, but thought that odd at the time, (high bandwidth digital etc.) picture and no sound, hmmm. Anyway its just fine with a HDMI cable (£7) to the TV here.0 -
The HDMI on graphics cards is simply for connectivity to tvs with HDMI (As DVI tvs are few and far between)
As sound doesnt go down HDMI through a graphics card you will never GET sound down the line im afraid:idea:0 -
aliEnRIK, Sorry but I can confirm that audio and sound does indeed make use of the HDMI lead.
Components used for testing
Sony Vaio laptop (HDMI output)
42" Panasonic (HDMI input no.3)
HDMI lead (£7)
TV speakers and remote controller for sound adjustment. All ok. Want to come round and look/listen?
The OP does not state laptop/desktop.0 -
ooooo
I hold my hand up
My apologies
Fair play to Sony for utilising it though. (As the manufacturers should):idea:0 -
No apologies required aliEnRik, surprised me to in a way I mean how do they do it, even the shop salesman said no audio!!! typical response from him, but happy it all runs ok through HDMI, just wanted to let all the readers know.
