Our combi boiler is on its way out and thanks to the Warmfront team I have to wait six months for a replacement, not acceptable at all given our circumstances disabled daughter.
So in the new year we would like to get a new boiler and still awaiting a plumber to give us a quote.
Unfortunately they never gave us no option of what condensing boiler to go for. I want one that is cheap to run and would pay a little more for that. Can anyone recommend one, for a 2 up 2 down mid terraced house to heat up 7 rads?
Our last boiler was a Woster (Bosch) and is 13 years old. It doesnt heat up water well as pilot light goes out every minute and heating playes up, also pressue is also at 0 on gauge until heating comes up. I been told by the brother in law who is a plumber who put it is thats is on its way out, I dont like to ask him as its always too much trouble these days.
Thanks

It sounds to me like your boiler has a combination of faults. Worcester are by far one of the best boiler manafacturers around. Stay away from cheap brand combi's as these in my opinion leak much quicker. The seals and components within them just don't seem upto much. They are however good for business!!!
A lot of people will say that a combi's lifespan is only 10 years as they work hard if demanding lots of hot water. Compare how much work your boiler does to how much you drive your car and i bet it does more and i also will guess that you wouldn't run the same car for 13 years either.
Good luck in your boiler hunt and if using a plumbers merchant to buy a boiler do not be afraid to ask for a discount. Most of them have a good mark up...

Not surprised you're having trouble if the pressure is 0 as most boilers have a low pressure cutout at about 5 psi which protects the boiler against working with no water. Might also explain why the pilot light goes out. Try filling the system until you get about 15 psi on the gauge and try again. Check the pressure in the expansion chamber as this tends to down over time which gives big pressure variations in the system
BTW I've had a Vokera combi for about 20 years and it's been good. I'll probably replace it next year with condensing Vokera.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0

Get anything but a Baxi, I junked ours this year after five years of continual hassle with a heap of Baxi junk that was full of design and manufacturing faults. Baxi wouldn't sort it out and I ended up having to buy a replacement at my own cost.Survivor of debt, redundancy, endowment scams, share crashes, sky-high inflation, lousy financial advice, and multiple house price booms. Comfortably retired after learning to back my own judgement.
This is not advice - hopefully it's common sense..0

Thanks for the help guys. I have tried toppng up the system but pressue doesnt last long before it goes back to 0.
I ask another plumber for a quote, I dont think the one I asked can be arsed to send me a quote.0

If system doesn't hold pressure, you have a leak somewhere. You would see it if it was in the boiler so replacing the boiler won't help. Check out the radiator connections/valves and any others you can see. Chances are when you find the leak you won't need a new boiler.Poppycat wrote:Thanks for the help guys. The pressue has dropped for months if not longer, but havent seen any leaks, although the downstairs piping is embeded in a concreate floor, which is lagged.0

            Hi,
Get the pipes pressure tested before you change the boiler. It could be you have a leak under the concrete floor. Copper or any pipes really need to be protected from the concrete or they will corrode through. What part of the country do you live, I know a lot of good Plumbers who do good work at reasonable price and are reliable with their diagnosis. Good luck. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

Thanks for your replies. I live in North Yorkshire catkins. brother in law is a plumber he put the system in 13 years ago. I dont like to ask him again, as it seems always a pain. I did ask for someone to come 10 days ago for a quote but they have so far not given me a quote. I need this doing soon due to health problems with myself and daughter I did get warmfront to come arond and they will either fix or replace boiler but it could take up to 6 months, which is took long for us to wait.0
