Car written off. Help please...!

If the damage is as you say, the car should be category C at worst, category D (more likely) or even Category X. You really should try to speak to the engineer who inspected the car (insurers don't like this) to find out why the damage is considered to be so severe as to warrant the car being taken off the road permanently. There could be structural damage that may not be apparent to the layman although the fact that you have two repairers prepared to do the job suggests that this is not the case.
FWIW Category C is defined as possible structural damage but the vehicle is repairable. The cost of the damage would have been more than the book value of the car if that repairs were carried out at garage prices and official manufacturers parts.0 -
were you at fault - even partially ?Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

Can you tell me what the difference cat are.
Many thanks
I have a problem with a car seat fire damage, but with insurance probs0 -
A - complete write off and not even parts can be used.
B - vehicle cannot be used again, but roadworthy parts can be used
C - vehicle could be repaired, but repair would cost more than vehicle is worth.
D - vehicle could be repaired, but insurers would face other costs making it uneconomical (eg car hire whilst repairs are carried out)0 -
update... i managed to get the engineer who assessed the car car's pre-accident value to up the value by £100. he himself admitted his quote was "a bit too low".
unfortunately with regards the insurance company stating my car is category B... thy will not budge or send out another mechanic for a 2nd opinion. i have to get a report from an independent engineer. any garage that can fill in a report will be accepted apparently. but then my insurers say they may still disagree.
i know i could get my car fixed and it would be reliable... but i'm getting a little worn down by all this. maybe that's what they want.
any ideas? how much would an independent engineer's time be to quote?0 -
Don't know f anyone can advise? maybe i'm flogging a dead horse?
I got an independent engineer who put my car as a category C not B. i'm waiting to see if the insurance company agree.
if they don't i'm not sure what to do.
Anyhelp anyone?0
