tax credits

my mate has just asked me a few questions and have looked here to see if i can find anything but cant see anything,she moving in with her boyfriend next month with her child not his,she wants to know do they claim tax credits as a family even though child isnt his and when completing tax credits form they ask for earning from apr 2007 to apr 2008 but she said shes confused on that part cos she wasnt with him then and what with child not being his does that get included, im actually confused too to be honest not sure how the tax credits work.

It doesn't matter that the child is not his. The mother will claim the ctc anyway.
If either of them work over 16 hours a week they may also be able to claim wtc.
They always base tax credits on the previous years income. The can change it though, and have it based on their current income. I'm not sure if they need to wait until the claim has been processed though, but someone on here will know that.0 -
They need to make a joint claim as they are now a couple, regardless of whether the child is his or not.
Tax credits are based on previous year income initially, so that is why they require both incomes. Again, it is irrelevant whether they were together then, they are now.
