Clio 1996 will not start

Hi,
I really need some help please. I have recently brought a clio 1996, everytime I go to start it the key will not turn in the ignition, is it a problem with the immobiliser as the immobiliser light is flashing but I do not know how to turn this off.

Sorry this is probably a really simple problem and I am jst being blonde!
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

Try to move the steering wheel right or left while trying to turn the key in the ignition. I hope this will help you if I understood correctly what your problem is.

I second wiggling the steering wheel.

it could be a damaged key, the immobiliser aerial around the ignition barrel needs to pick up the singal from the key

Things such as radio masts etc can interfere with it, i had a nissan 200sx that could not be started at heathrow, the AA man towed it 1/2 a mile up the and it started

so try the spare key!
