Tesco Credit Card

Options
Hi,

I hope this is posted in the right place

This prob sounds stupid but how do you pay off the balance overdue?

I have spent around £100 and want to pay it off a.s.a.p so i get charged no intrest.

I have an egg card and all i do for that is log onto the website and make a one-off payment.

Is there a website for tesco c/c? or how and when do i pay it?

Cheers
NJO.

Yes there is a website for Tesco Credit Card but is the Tesco Personal Finance site. You can access it through the Tesco.com site as well. You have to register and you will then be sent an access code to log in the first time. However, I simply pay mine through my online banking, not the Tesco site. I have set it up as a bill payment and each month just make a payment out. (I intend to start direct debit for the minimum amount. If you want to pay by direct debit you need to ring 08456 040409. You can also ring them by calling the same number and pay by Switch/Maestro or Delta card. You can also pay at any bank (free at Royal Bank of Scotland banks) or send your payment by cheque in the post.

To set up an online payment you will need your credit card account number (16 digits) found in the top right hand corner of your staement and the bank's 6 digit sort code which appears in the box within the bank giro credit area at the bottom of your statement. If a bank account number is requested you need to quote 00000000.

There is an interest free period on the card and you get about three weeks from the statement date in which to make payment before interest would be charged.
  • Not sure what you mean by overdue?

You will only be charged interest on purchases if you make a part payment, once you get your statement, by the due date. If full payment is made by the due date then you won't get charged interest. (This is putting it basically, there are exceptions but I won't bore you with them as that doesn't seem to apply here)

But if you really want to pay off the £100 before you get your statement, give them a ring as they will accept payment by debit card over the phone.

You get a statement once a month and it is always drawn on the same day. It takes about five days to arrive. Mine are always dated the 18th of the month. My payment has to be in my account no later than the 12th January otherwise interest will be payable together with the possibility of a charge for late payment.

I cannot remember now how long it took for my first statement to come through but I would expect that yours will be drawn sometime between 28th December and 5th January.

You get statements every month and then have about 3 weeks to pay. Call their CS and ask about your statement date. The best way to make full or minimum payments is by Direct Debit from your current account. You can ask Tesco to setup the DD when calling them. With DD be carefull with the first payment - make sure (call them a week before the payment date) that it will be collected by DD. If not make payment yourself.
  • I got my statement today, I have a DD set up for the minimum amount but wanted to pay more this month so phoned CS and did a debit card payment as well. There are quite a few ways to pay but like other posters I would recommend a DD so that you always make the min payment on time.

ETA: Have you only recently got this card? If so then do you not have 0% on purchases/bt's until May 06?
