    Hi mancbird,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

These threads may be useful too:

Has anyone done this before?
What do you normally eat it with? I'd also like stock left over at the end to cook pea and ham soup with (again in the slow cooker!) any suggestions what to put in with the gammon to make my stock.
One last question I promise! Should I use smoked or unsmoked gammon?
    Thank you!

  • I slow cook gammon in the Rayburn, but it's the same principle as a SC ;) I cook it in apple juice with shallots and carrots.

I'll add this to the existing gammon in SC thread to keep ideas together.

    Whichever you prefer.

I did a gammon last week (not in a slow cooker) and we had it cold with baked spuds, crunchy winter salad, pickles and hm chutney. Ooh I love those gammon leftovers in the freezer;)
  • Hi, someone up there mentioned lentil and bacon soup. Having just done the gammon (for too long it may seem) I have that lovely stock from apple juice left over. Can someone point me to athe soup recipie please. thanks

Found the following on web, might be of use. I've added them to my recipe collection.

    Carroty Lentil Soup with Bacon
    Lentil and Bacon Soup
    Weight Watchers Lentil Soup
    Spiced Carrot and Lentil

I'd check them out and adapt to suit what you have and fancy. Hope it works out for you.
  • [FONT=&quot]Hi there,

First of all thank you to this amazing forum for helping me with my new slow cooker! The recipes and tips have been really helpful :D

Secondly, a question. I bought a hunk of gammon last night and have put it on to cook in my slow cooker today. It had an outer wrapper, and then a thick band of see-through plastic around it, kind of holding it together. Is it right that I left this on?? The instructions didn’t say to remove it, but I don’t want to get home and realise I’ve got to eat gammon with a welded-on plastic crust.:rotfl:

The slow cooker's not starting until midday, so I've got time to pop home and rescue it if necessary!
