  • its all a bit academic now as the money was credited to my account by Tuesday morning, oh and the T&C's do say for interest calculating purposes, cash is credited at the time of deposit, irrespective of whether it is a working day or not

But the cash wasn't deposited into an account, it was at that point just sitting in a drop box.

Tuesday morning seems a little bit excessive though - if it was on a Saturday, and the branch opens on Monday, I'd imagine the money would be in your account on Monday at some point. Funny :S

Maybe milliemonster has a different set of T&C's from the ones I posted above?

I do agree a Tuesday credit is unacceptable though...unless the envelope also contained a cheque to deposit?

They won't have a "receipt", they will have an "acknowledgement". The way the machines work is that the cash and a slip is put into an envelope, the customer inserts their card, they key in the amount they say is in the envelope and they get a little slip saying that they said they deposited that amount. The envelope then is opened by a cashier, checked and input.

Depends on the type of machine?

My local branch has the sort of machine you describe but others in the area (the type with coin machines) have - what I would almost call reverse ATMs - in that you put your money in a slot, the machine counts it then, asks you to confirm the amount and then immediately credits it to your account..

Put simply, it can't be a receipt and shouldn't be treated as such, because it could quite easily bear absolutely no relation to what was actually deposited. If it did work that way, you could put a tenner in an envelope, say you've put in £100 (because that's the amount you entered on the keypad) and we wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

But anyway, this is all academic, as the machines aren't emptied and the transactions not input on Saturdays. The envelopes stay in there until the following Monday, when they'll be checked and input. It won't be HSBC's fault, as that's the way the system works and always has. No counter open = no counter to open envelopes and put your money in.

I thought the OP was talking about one of those HSBC cash counter deposit things, where you insert the cash and it counts it, and gives you an actual receipt.

If the OP was talking about the cheque deposit box, I'm sorry, yes you're right.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
