Faulty DFS sofa

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice. I've just had two sofas delivered from DFS. They are both antique style tan leather with gold metal studs along the bottom. When I received them, I noticed that one sofa has the metal studs, and the other does not. The sofa with the missing studs also has a dark brown dye mark around the size of my hand in the middle of the central back cushion and another mark higher up that's about two inches long. A sofa technician came out today, and as I suspected they are claiming this mark is a natural part of the leather. I understand that parts of the leather may be more porous, but dying is certainly not a natural process!

I have had several friends round who looked at the sofa, and I tell them it is damaged but do not say in what way or which sofa it is. They all spot the mark within a few seconds. It looks like a nasty stain on the sofa. The technician said he could put in the missing studs very quickly but that it is very unlikely anything will be done about the dark mark.

What should I do if they refuse to do anything? Have it inspected by trading standards? That's what I told the man I would do!

Any help much appreciated!

Complain to the Manager of the store, usually DFS are quite good at rectifying problems.

If you do not get satisfaction, speak with the Regional Manager.

Sadly their suites are not of the best quality.

Interesting.I bought a tan leather sofa from DFS in September and I'm not happy with it.I knew it was natural leather sofa when I bought it but I now think the term "natural leather" is a term DFS use and can hide behind if there are any issues with the quality of the leather used. When the sofa arrived I noticed the leather was blotchy, pockmarked, uneven colours, different textures of leather used on the same cushion (one panel feels like brushed leather whereas the other panel on the same cushion feels more taut and polished). There are also what look like permanent "rain drop" marks on some of the arms. In the last two weeks I'm convinced the problem is getting worse ! There is a horizontal fade mark on one of the cushions and what look like tiny scratch marks on another cushion. I've now taken photos of the sofa and will see if the problem really is getting worse.I know natural leather has natural scarring but there should be a limit to what is acceptable. The sofa I bought is no longer available at their stores but I am 100% certain that the display model did NOT have all these marks on it.If DFS expect people to buy a sofa based on their display models then the delivered product should be of a similar appearance.I was also not happy with the middle seat cushion on my 3 seater sofa. The two end cushions offer firm support whilst the middle one just gives in when you sit on it (and I'm a slim guy).A DFS representative came to look at it and said that's how they're manufactured and to call him if it gets worse.
